Mooring winches can be classified according to their control type (automatic or manual tension), drive type (Diesel, hydraulic or electric, or air), and the number of related drums in accordance to the type of drum (split, non-split) and their brake and brake application type (belt, disc, mechanical screw, spring application).

What is the advange of split drum type winch?
When moorning or towing, non-separable drum when the rope is processed directly from the drum, the last lap of the outer layer under tension tends to bite the lower layer. This may cause damage to the rope and difficulty in releasing the line. In order to reduce this problem, the non-split drum winch should keep a sufficient distance from the gland to ensure that the rope can be wound correctly, while split drum could avoid such matter since most part of rope is stored in the storage part of the drum and tension part will hold the pull.
The drive motor of a split drum winch mainly offers two options, electric or hydraulic, and drum quantity could choose single, double or three.
