The market for these off-grid solutions is expanding rapidly, with West Africa at the forefront of this growth.
Between July and December 2023, sales of off-grid solar power kits in West Africa soared to 886,700 units, as reported by GOGLA, the global association for the off-grid solar power industry. This represents a 5% increase from the first half of 2023, though a slight 4% decrease compared to the second half of 2022. Spot sales saw a notable rise of 15%, totaling 401,800 units, while the PAYGo segment experienced a minor decline of 1%, accounting for 484,890 units.
Nigeria remains a significant driver of this growth, accounting for 82% of the total sales in the region with 729,700 units sold. Other countries contributing to the market expansion include Benin, Togo, Burkina Faso, and Ivory Coast.
